No weekend wash-out for DC this weekend, High heat returns next week

More rain continues into the start of the weekend

Looking back, 2 of the past 3 weekends have included measurable rainfall with another on the way. Heavy rain made it’s way through the area this morning and continues as moderate rainfall this afternoon, dropping over an inch and a half in parts of the region so far.

Friday will see a bit of a break in the rain, but expect a passing light shower or patches of drizzle at times, especially in the early morning hours. Heavier rainfall is anticipated by Friday night into Saturday morning. If you have plans Friday night, be sure to bring along a jacket or umbrella as you will surely need them after 9pm.

Rainfall is anticipated to continue through Saturday morning. An additional inch to an inch and a half will be possible by Saturday. Our current thoughts are that rain will begin to taper off in the early afternoon hours, with some breaks in the overcast by the late afternoon and evening before sunset. Unfortunately temperatures will still be chilly, only near the 60 degree mark for highs.

What about Mom???

Mother’s Day will feature more sunshine, warmer temperatures in the 70s and breezy winds around 10 to 15 mph out of the northwest. Not a complete wash-out for the weekend, and a little added vitamin D to everyone that can get out of the house and out of mom's hair for the day!

Here comes the HEAT

Looking ahead to next week, high pressure is expected to set-up shop off the southeast coast, leading to a nice southerly flow into the region. Temperatures will jump into the 80s Tuesday through the following weekend. The warmest day of the week should be Thursday with highs possibly near the 90 degree mark.
