Get ready for a hot and sunny June weekend! High temperatures both Saturday and Sunday will top out in the low 90s. What a difference from last weekend when we experienced record cold high temperatures in the 50s!

It will be so hot, in fact, that D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has activated the District’s Heat Emergency Plan for Sunday and Monday. To find your closest cooling center in D.C., CLICK HERE.

The weather will be perfect for outdoor activities, including spending time by the water or at the pool.

So far this year, D.C. has reached 90 degrees four times. Looking ahead, StormWatch7 is forecasting high temperatures at or above 90 degrees through the beginning of next week.

A Heat Wave is defined as three consecutive days at 90 degrees or higher. At this point, it looks like we could be in for a five-day stretch of highs above 90 degrees.

Last year, the longest heatwave of the season started June 26, 2020, and marked the start of the second-longest streak of 90+ degree days. The streak capped off at 20, shy of the record of 21 days.

As always this time of year, StormWatch7 is OnYourSide reminding you about the importance of practicing heat safety.

This weekend is looking great at the Delmarva beaches with ample sunshine and warm highs in the 80s expected.

Thinking of going west instead? The mountain forecast is stellar as well. However, a highly isolated late-day shower or storm is not out of the question.
