Coldest air of the season here for the end of 2017, New Year's Eve and beginning of 2018

Thursday morning forecast low temperatures

Many of you are getting back to work this week and will be greeted by the coldest air we’ve seen so far this season. This may actually be an appetizer compared to an even stronger cold push this weekend into the first few days of 2018.

Temperatures today should be some of the mildest of the week which isn’t saying much with highs in the upper 30s. A weak disturbance will bring the possibility for a few snow showers overnight into early Wednesday morning. A few slick spots may be possible so be sure to read more about it here.

Thursday morning will be the coldest so far of the season with lows in the teens throughout the area. The coldest temperature so far at Reagan National has been 23 degrees on December 13th. While teens are definitely cold, models are hinting at HIGH temperatures in the teens to lower 20s this weekend into early next week.

While latest models have some discrepancies in the timing, our latest forecast includes highs in the upper 20s New Year’s Eve, middle 20s New Year’s Day and in the lower 20s on Tuesday, January 2nd. Those temperatures are about 15 to 20 degrees below normal and the coldest area temperatures since January 7-9 2017.
