President Donald Trump gave Russian President Vladimir Putin some familiar gifts at their summit Monday in Helsinki, Finland.
According to ABC News, Putin spokesman Dimitry Peskov told Russian state news agency TASS that Trump presented Putin with a jersey belonging to Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin, as well as a hockey puck.
In exchange, Putin, as seen in front of cameras while the two leaders stood in front of podiums, gave Trump a World Cup ball – one day after the conclusion of the World Cup hosted in Russia.
"Mr. President, I will give this ball to you, and now the ball is in your court,” Putin said through a translator. “All the more that the United States will host the World Cup in 2026."
Ovechkin, a Russian who helped the Capitals win their first Stanley Cup this past season, has long expressed support for Putin.
