Karen Loss: Toyota Team Player

Karen Loss, Toyota Team Player (ABC7)

"I’m telling you I'm going to share this moment everywhere!"

The team Karen Loss is playing for – fighting for – is a profound one.

"I’m here to try and bring a little bit of awareness to the world of lung cancer. I am a lung cancer survivor."

Loss was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer almost 4 years ago.

"She always impresses me and I'm totally amazed by her," said Jo Saltzman, Karen's sister.

Karen is an avid Baseball fan and she loves the Nationals.

"It just lifts my spirits. I mean watching baseball, it's like a perfect getaway from everything."

Last week, what a thrill: Loss got to throw out a ceremonial first pitch.

"This is a dream come true," Loss called it.

The pitch was a little short ("That was my wild pitch," she joked) but it’s purpose – to show that she and other cancer patients can rally against this dreaded disease – that’s a perfect strike in anybody’s book.

Said Jo of her sister: "She gives me strength because she's amazing and she just holds her head up and keeps going."

"The whole point here is to bring lung cancer awareness, said Karen afterwards. "I mean it was great fun to do this but it's not just to have fun. It's actually to serve a purpose."

All the best to Karen Loss, this week’s Toyota Team Player.
