The road to the Little League World Series is becoming more of a reality for the Montgomery Little League baseball team. The 12u team was crowned Maryland State Champions to get them one step closer to Williamsport.

The team is currently playing in the Mid-Atlantic Regional tournament in Bristol, Connecticut. Unfortunately, the team lost to New Jersey earlier today 3-1, but according to manager Craig Dober, the loss isn't hitting the young ballplayers too hard.

"The kids, they're great, I mean kids rebound past these things probably better than the adults do," Dober told 7News sports anchor Olivia Garvey. "We lost a tough one today, but then they went to the pool an hour later, and they were fine."

Montgomery will match up against Washington, DC-Capital City Little League at 4 p.m. Tuesday, in hopes of continuing in the tournament. Montgomery County Little League has never made it this far, and Dober is just proud of what they have accomplished win or lose in Bristol.

Washington, DC-Capital City Little League lost their game Sunday to Pennsylvania Upper Providence Little League but will have another chance to advance in the tournament with a win over Montgomery County Little League Tuesday.

The winner of the game will move on to play either Delaware or New York Wednesday afternoon. For more information on the tournament, click here.

"They just love playing baseball, and it's just such a great accomplishment," Dober said. "It's something that hasn't been done in Montgomery County little league history, for a team to get this far. It just shows all the hard work the volunteers in the league have put in over the years to get us to this point."

Montgomery County little league will take on D.C. tomorrow at 4 p.m.
