Metro Police say the crash happened early Saturday morning around 2:40 a.m. Officers say a sedan on I-40 East near Clifton Avenue collided with a semi hauling gasoline.
Officers say the sedan flipped over and the cab of the tanker went off of the interstate overpass and fell onto Clifton Avenue below. Police say the actual trailer remained on the interstate and burned until firefighters were able to extinguish the flames.
Though the accident was severe, the semi driver only has minor injuries and the driver of the sedan was not hurt. The entire roadway was shut down near Clifton Avenue for hours while crews worked to clean up debris from the roadway.
The crash is clear and all lanes have reopened.
