Trump tweets on Va. gubernatorial race again, endorses Ed Gillespie (ABC7)

On the eve of the Virginia governor's race, President Donald Trump once again endorsed Ed Gillespie, while labeling the Commonwealth's economy as "terrible."

In a tweet sent out at 4:12 p.m., Trump said: "The state of Virginia economy, under Democrat rule, has been terrible. If you vote Ed Gillespie tomorrow, it will come roaring back!"

On October 26, Trump tweeted that Gillespie will be a "great Governor of Virginia" and that the candidate will "turn the really bad Virginia economy #'s around, and fast."

The President also attacked Democratic candidate, Dr. Ralph Northam, saying: "His opponent doesn't even show up to meetings/work, and will be VERY weak on crime!"

Northam responded by saying, "I served 8 years in the Army, took care of sick kids, and am running to build a more inclusive Virginia. Don't take to me about showing up."

Then, Virginia's current Governor Terry McAuliffe weighed in on Trump's attack on Northam by saying, "Ed Gillespie treats you like a communicable disease and you haven't shown up for the most important race of '17."

Earlier last month, Trump attacked Northam in another tweet saying that the candidate "is fighting for the violent MS-13 killer gangs and sanctuary cities."

Northam responded by sharing a tweet with a link to a donations page.

ABC7's Autria Godfrey sat down with Gillespie last Thursday. Watch the full interview below:
