(SBG) - The Philadelphia Flyers welcomed a new mascot Monday named Gritty.

The creature is rotund, much like his city counterpart, the wildly popular Phillie Phanatic, and has bulging, big white eyes. It also boasts the beard of a lion, and is mostly orange, one of the primary colors of the hockey team.

The creation has many scratching their heads, wondering who or what exactly may have inspired the organization's decision-makers and designers.

Gritty already has his own Twitter account and a biography on the Flyers' official website, which describes the thing's father as a "bully," "naturally" giving him "some of those tendencies -- talented but feisty, a fierce competitor..."

Other traits also seem similar to those of the Phillie Phanatic, like the descriptors "loyal but mischievous."

"He has some oddities that are both humorous and strange," the bio continues. "A number of times he's been caught eating snow straight from the Zamboni machine, and unbeknown to most, his love of hot dogs has been inflating the Flyers Dollar Dog Night consumption totals for years."
