WASHINGTON (SBG) - Senator Rand Paul said Wednesday morning that there is no evidence that Donald Trump incited the violence seen at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

“If you look at the speech carefully, he said ‘Go fight for your country,’” said Paul to The National Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat. “I asked yesterday on the Senate floor, if you're a Democrat and you've ever given a speech that says ‘go fight for your country’, figuratively, raise your hand.”

“I could see the hands going up because every politician in the land has used that type of word, fighting, figuratively.”

Paul noted times that Democrats used similar language, citing Cory Booker, Maxine Waters, and Bernie Sanders.

“Did Kamala Harris commit a crime when she said to people who were burning down our cities, that she would pay for their bail?” said Paul. “There's a lot of politicians who get involved with things and by extension, violence occurs. Are they all responsible?”

Senator Paul has been open in his opposition to Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, calling it “dead on arrival.” One particular reason is that Chief Justice John Roberts is not presiding over the trial; instead, Senator Patrick Leahy will preside.

“If the Chief Justice can't bother to walk across the street, it means this really is an invalid trial, they're trying a private citizen. That means you or I could be impeached,” said Paul. “This isn't a constitutional procedure, it's a political thing.”
