'There was a shooting inside the building': Suspect shot at Oregon school; no kids hurt
EUGENE, Ore. (KVAL) - Students, faculty and police are safe after a shooting inside Cascade Middle School in West Eugene.
A suspect has been shot, Eugene Police said. His condition is not yet known.
"No students have been injured. There was a shooting inside the building. I can't give you more details at this time," Lt. Jennifer Bills with Eugene Police said. "The Interagency Deadly Force Investigation Team will be coming to take over this investigation."
Parents should stay home, Bills said. You can contact your child by phone or text, she said.
The school is on lockout. No one will be allowed inside. Students are locked inside their classrooms.
Multiple police units are on scene at Cascade Middle School in west Eugene.
"We got a report of a dispute here at the school. Officers arrived and were dealing with a suspect," Bills said.
The involvement of the Interagency Deadly Force Investigation Team suggests an officer used deadly force at some point. Under Oregon law, IDFIT investigates all uses of potentially deadly force by police.
The identity of the suspect and the officers involved are not yet known.
