Report: Charles Manson hospitalized

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - Celebrity gossip website TMZ reports that mass murderer Charles Manson is being treated at a Bakersfield hospital.

Manson has been serving his life sentences at Corcoran State Prison, about an hour north of Bakersfield.

The cult leader was behind the infamous 1969 Tate-Labianca murders.

TMZ reports Manson is getting care for "gastrointestinal issues" but didn't specify at which hospital.

Eyewitness News called the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, which refused to confirm TMZ's story because of laws prohibiting the disclosure of certain health information.

No hospitals in Bakersfield have confirmed that they have Manson as a patient, but there are strong indicators that Manson, if in Bakersfield at all, could be at Mercy Hospital Downtown.

Eyewitness News has learned that only two hospitals have locked facilities, and one of those, San Joaquin Community Hospital, flatly told Eyewitness News that Manson is not there.
