Man tells police he killed woman 'to make a better life for his son'
SEATTLE (KOMO) — A 28-year-old woman died after being stabbed in Seattle Friday evening.
In court documents, the suspect, David Lee Morris, admitted to killing Gabrielle Garcia. He was arrested and booked into King County jail for first degree murder.
Morris said he was the father of a 5-year-old son who witnessed the stabbing. The 30-year-old said he and Garcia had experienced relationship problems over the past few years, according to court documents.
David Lee Morris told detectives he killed Garcia “to make a better life for his son.”
On October 9, Garcia filed a protection order against Morris, according to King County superior court documents.
Garcia’s dad, Joe Garcia, said the young boy will be raised by his family.
Neighbors described Garcia as “delightful” and “well-liked.”
“Look, it’s heartbreaking. It’s heartbreaking for everybody. She was just a sweet kid and she grew into a young woman who had taken control of her life,” said John Healy, who lives across the street from the home he said Garcia grew up in.
“She was a loving kid growing up and was always willing to cross the street and have a conversation with you,” Healy said.
The court set Morris’ next court appearance for Monday afternoon.
