KENOSHA, Wis. (TNND) — Several Republican figures expressed outrage Monday over social media video showed the performance by a transgender singer at a rally for Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.
Sen. Sanders traveled to Kenosha, Wisconsin as part of his “Fight Oligarchy” town hall series. The events revolve around drumming Democratic resistance to President Donald Trump.
Before the event, Sen. Sanders hosted transgender singer Laura Jane Grace, who performed the song “Your God,” which includes vulgar sexual lyrics.
"Does your God have a big fat d---?/ Cause it feels like he’s f---ing me,” the lyrics read. "Does he shoot wads of honey/ and c-- twice on Easter Sunday?”
Sen. Sanders then thanked Grace by name for the performance.
The performance sparked outrage on social media.
“Sick D Party,” former Texas state Rep. Dwayne Bohac, R-District 138, lamented via X. “Just sick.”
“Beyond words,” Rep. Greg Murphy, R-N.C., added. “Biblical times”
Neither Grace’s management nor Sen. Sanders’s officer responded to a request for comment from The National News Desk Monday about the performance.
Sen. Sanders wrote via X he is confident Americans support his movement.
“The American people will not allow us to become an oligarchy,” he wrote. “They will not allow Trump to take us into authoritarianism. We’re prepared to fight. And we’re going to win.”
“Americans do not want oligarchy or authoritarianism,” he added in a separate post. “They want democracy and a government that works for working families, not billionaires.”
