HURT, Va. (WSET) - A seven-year-old has died from the flu, according to the boy's family.

The family said that Kevin Baynes, Jr. was sent home from school on Friday after throwing up and falling asleep in class.

He was then taken to the ER on Saturday where, his father, said, doctors gave him a couple prescriptions after he tested positive for the flu and strep throat.

The boy's father said he slept most of the day Saturday, but couldn't hold down any food or water and the next morning, when his older sister tried to wake him, he was cold and not breathing.

After calling 911, Baynes was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, the family said.

The little boy's body was taken to the Medical Examiner for an autopsy to be conducted Monday.

Baynes was a student at Mt. Airy Elementary School and superintendent Mark Jones said four schools were disinfected Sunday night, along with the buses after students were dropped off to school Monday morning.

Family and friends have set up a GoFundMe Page to help cover the cost of his funeral.

The school also sent a letter to parents of students in the school about the latest CDC statistics on the flu and the symptoms that come along with its diagnosis.

Jones said he is not closing the school and told parents they have nothing to worry about.

The results of the Medical Examiner’s report on the boy's death are pending.
