2-Alarm fire in New York hospital spews plume of black smoke over city

A massive fire, believed to be coming from the fifth floor of a New York hospital, cast a plume of billowing black smoke over the city Wednesday afternoon.

The Fire Department of New York's Twitter feed indicates the fire began on the fifth floor of New York University's Medical Center at 560 1st Ave. sometime around noon.

Smoke could be seen from miles away.
