Zipcars to park free at D.C. meters, residential neighborhoods

(WJLA) - With parking already at a premium in the District of Columbia, those who use a popular car sharing service are about to get a big break.

Zipcar members are now allowed to park at any meter or in any residential permit neighborhood without cost, the company and the city's Department of Transportation announced Tuesday.

The company says that each of the fleet's 850 cars with a special parking permit that allows drivers to park anywhere for free.

"We appreciate partnering with the District to find innovative ways to encourage the growth of car sharing.", Zipcar D.C. GM Scott hall said in a statement.
