On Saturday morning, crowds of fans flocked to Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington for an official sendoff before Capitals players headed to Las Vegas. The stands inside the rink were packed as the players skated across the ice during their morning practice.

Around noon, fans lined up behind barriers with signs and balloons cheering as the Capitals players headed out.

“C-A-P-S! Caps! Caps! Caps!” The fans chanted.

“It’s been 20 years and we are just over the moon excited!” Said Daniel Shores, who traveled from Winchester to be a part of the excitement.

“Seeing them finally play in a Stanley Cup is a dream come true!” Said Christian Fowler, from Hagerstown.

The fans braved scorching temperatures, standing outside ready to cheer on the team.

“All worth it because we are going to get that cup!” One fan said.

“It motivates them to get that cup and bring it home!” Said Dara Fowler, from Hagerstown, of the support from the fans.

“This city has been looking forward to this for 20 years and just to finally be able to like experience it and be a part of it is amazing,” said Monika Zawasky, an Alexandria resident.

“It’s very hopeful,” said Laura Turpin, from Arlington, of the day. “It’s very energetic. And I think it’s inspiring the entire city.”
