DC Police have released video of two men with guns robbing a cab driver and an elderly man in a wheelchair in Northeast on Friday.

According to a police report, a cab driver told police he was dropping off a passenger in a wheelchair in the unit block of Franklin St., NE at 11:33 a.m. when two men walking by doubled back, pulled guns, and yelled, “Give up the money.”

ABC7 News spoke with one of the two victims: an 81-year-old veteran who is blind, a double amputee and bound to a wheelchair.

“They kept saying I’m going to shoot, I’m going to shoot,” said Alfred Barnes. “It was very scary because I felt so helpless. You know, I couldn’t do anything. All I could do was sit there, and I was actually afraid to say anything.”

Barnes couldn’t see the suspects but says he heard the voices of a man and a woman. He says the suspects first took a wallet, a backpack and cash from his cab driver. Then, Barnes says they ripped a pouch from around his neck.

“They looked at the pouch around my neck and said get that pouch, there may be money in it,” recalled Barnes, who said the pouch contained only his house keys and a photo ID.

Barnes and his wife had to get the locks on their home changed and say they haven’t slept well since the robbery took place. They’ve been too nervous.

“I felt shaken,” said Barnes. “I kept waiting for the gunshot because I thought they were going to shoot us.”

Video from a nearby surveillance cameras shows both suspects ran from the scene, across the street and down an alley toward the unit block of Girard Street, NE.

Police said no one was injured, but ask anyone who can identify the individuals seen in the surveillance video to call (202) 727-9099 or text tips to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
