Rat spotted in an American University eatery
WASHINGTON (ABC7) —
An American University student spotted a rat at a cafe on campus and caught it on video.
The video got hundreds of views since it was posted by student Paige Kupsky.
She says she shot this video on Saturday and since then she says students have noticed a consistent rodent issue in Megabytes Cafe, which the university says is operated by a tenant in a building on campus.
But the students say it isn’t just this eatery they have seen rats in. They also say they see rats in other areas around campus.
"There shouldn’t be rats on-campus.... I don’t think that’s safe or healthy for anybody on campus," said Kupsky.
"I would like to see them actually do something about this issue," said student Wayne Rodriquez. "We’re paying $65,000 to attend this schooland I think this needs to be fixed.”
On Thursday, the university issued a statement regarding the incident:
"American University is aware of concerns in the community regarding Megabytes Café, operated by a tenant in a building on campus. Both the University and the tenant take the health, safety, and well-being of our community seriously. Megabytes closed effective 9:00 PM on November 1 and will not reopen until we have sufficient time to develop a remediation plan. We anticipate the closure to last through next Friday. We will provide an update as soon as we have additional information. "
