Victims of Silver Spring apartment explosion continue to face devastation
SILVER SPRING, Md. (ABC7) —
Groups of people lined the fence outside the Flower Branch Apartments building in Silver Spring on Saturday evening. Earlier, crews spent the day sifting through rubble.
On Wednesday, an explosion and massive fire tore through the building.
Nearby, donations continued to pour in at the Casa de Maryland University Boulevard East location.
“People are facing these big challenges, these big situations, this tragedy, and when I communicate that to them, they started to cry,” said Gustavo Torres, with Casa de Maryland.
The group planned to bring donations to the shelter on Sunday morning.
On Friday, Casa de Maryland told us they had received so much stuff they were not accepting more donations of items for the time being.
They say the best way to help at the moment is to donate money. To make a financial donation, go to http://mhpartners.org/.
“Everybody is coming together and saying, ‘We are with you. We want to help you. We want to be in solidarity with you,’” Torres said.
A prayer vigil was scheduled for Sunday evening.
