WASHINGTON, DC (7News) — The chain convenience store-restaurant Union Kitchen is telling students from nearby McKinley Tech High School and Middle School they will not be allowed in its Eckington store -- unless they’re with an adult.
The district manager of the store would not go on camera but told 7News' Sam Ford the new policy is because of theft by students and fights both inside and in front of the store.
This sign is posted on the entrance door: "Students are no longer allowed in the store. Stealing, violence against your classmates and your lack of respect for others has killed the vibe, so we're done. Dot even ask. It's sad, not being able to trust you."
Students don’t like it, saying most of them don’t steal. Neighbors don’t like it, either, including one who said it essentially means African American youth are banned from the store.
