Transfer station on fire in Md., 50 firefighters on scene, officials say

DERWOOD, Md. (ABC7) — Over 50 firefighters have been dispatched to a large fire at a transfer station in Derwood, Montgomery County PIO Pete Piringer reports.

Piringer says the fire is on the tipping floor and pit area in the 16100 block of Frederick Rd.

Officials are reporting heavy smoke and the building is being evacuated of all civilian workers and staff.
