LEESBURG, Va. (ABC7) — Loudoun County’s largest area food bank received a big surprise and donation on from a local Irish company on St. Patrick's day.
At a time when food banks continue to deal with a great need for food, Loudoun Hunger Relief says they went from serving 250 families to 900 every week.
“We gave out around 3 million pounds of food in the last year” Jennifer Montgomery, CEO of Loudoun Hunger Relief said.

Breakfast cereal happens to be one of the most in demand items. "I don’t know what happened but it has been an issue for us to get” Montgomery explained. She also says the food pantry goes through 900 boxes of cereal a week.
“Sometimes I think people forget that we have neighbors that need our help and are still not back to normal," Montgomery said. "The need is still strong and it is still here."
Hanley Energy, an Irish based company with its US Headquarters in Loudoun, donated 4,300 lbs. of cereal to the food pantry on Wednesday afternoon.
"It’s Hanley’s 5th anniversary of US operations," Montgomery said. "We loved to be celebrate St. Patrick’s Day along with our Irish friends who are doing good locally and working to spread the luck and good wishes."
According to Montgomery, the cereal donation will last them one month,
“In addition to more than two tons of cereal delivered, they gifted us a box truck," Montgomery said. "It will help hugely to be more efficient and help move food into our community."
