A DuVal High School science teacher’s out-of-this-world instruction landed her the 2022 Christa McAuliffe Outstanding Teacher Award.

Administrators and students from the school’s poms team and band paid Dr. Terri Dove a surprise visit and presented her with the award Monday.

Dove has taught science for 10 years and her commitment to her profession does not go unrecognized.

“One of Dr. Dove's most striking qualities is her passion and commitment to high student achievement in science,” said DuVal HS principal Pamela Smith. “She is a creative, resourceful and effective educator whose classroom environment is student-centered and engaging.”

Dove released a statement on her Twitter regarding the award:

"Thank you @pgcps. This is an incredible moment. Words can’t properly convey my appreciation to those who selected me for this award. It is with great respect for the legacy of Christa McAuliffe that I humbly thank everyone for their words of encouragement & support. #PGCPSProud"

Dove serves as the Professional Development Lead Teacher at DuVal and spends time helping colleagues through weekly instructional strategy emails and one-on-one and small group training, according to a PGCPS press release.

Dove has attended and presented at national conferences and received awards from PGCPS in 2017 and the Maryland Association of Science Teachers in 2020.
