In Southeast DC, a community is mourning the loss of a man who touched thousands of lives.

Harold “Uncle Ike” Foster worked with inner city kids from ages four or five on up. He taught the kids history and facts, teaching them how to memorize and recall those facts when he questioned them.

He was known for going to bat for kids in trouble, getting them back in school when suspended or calling on city officials to get utilities back on so kids wouldn’t be in the dark.

He always seemed to know the right person to call to get action for anyone who needed help.

Uncle Ike died Thursday after congestive heart failure and several strokes. All of the people whose lives he made better will miss him and will always remember him.
