Responding to social media posts reporting unknown, suspicious white men in trench coats at a Walmart store, Bowie Police investigated and found no evidence backing the claims.

The social media posts came in the wake of a massive school shooting in Texas and school shootings, the stabbing death of a student, and threats against a school in the D.C. area on Tuesday.

Police say no call for service was ever made, but they were at the Walmart store throughout the day on Tuesday and checked the store thoroughly.

Bowie Police Deputy Chief Dwayne Preston told 7News officers reviewed surveillance video at the Walmart store and saw nothing suspicious.

"We appreciate people being vigilant," Preston said.
