While 7News was reporting on a string of shootings between Thursday and Friday, we learned of another shooting in Northwest.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said a man was shot and killed inside Rock Creek Cemetery, making it 11 shootings in three days. In this shooting, police said they’re looking for a man in a medical mask, black jacket, black jeans and shoes.

MPD’s crime portal shows that violent crime is down 34 percent compared to last year.

“There was a shooting here on election night right down the street there was shooting on Mellon yesterday its rough,” said Salim Adofo, Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner for 8C.

During 7News’ interview with Adofo, the shooting at Rock Creek Cemetery was reported.

“Some of us are confused and frustrated because we are having this conversation over and over and over again and feel there’s nothing we can do,” Adofo said. "Sometimes we feel hopeless."

In addition to this shooting, police are investigating at least ten other shootings that happened earlier this week.

Thursday morning at 11 a.m., MPD said they responded to a shooting on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Southeast. Just over three hours later on Atlantic Street, police said a woman was shot and killed. Six hours later, two shootings happened just over an hour apart on Edgewood Street where one man was killed, according to police. Officials are still investigating whether the two shootings are connected.

“Legislatively we have a lot of laws and policies in place but a lot of times there’s a gap of the law and the enforcement of it,” Adofo said.

On Friday morning, MPD reported another set of shootings on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue at 11:04 a.m. and at the same time, a teen and a man were shot on Mellon Street. There was also a shooting reported 4 hours later on Chesapeake Street where a 61-year-old was killed on Southern Avenue.

7News asked Adofo what is missing between leaders regarding addressing the number of shootings in the District.

“We’re not all on the same page,” Adofo said. “We know we all want to address the issue of gun violence but aren’t on the same page of how we can do that.”

If these tragic shootings keep happening at this pace, then the District is on track to have its four consecutive year of more than 200 shootings.
