The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a suspect after a victim was shot to death at a convenience store gas pump early Sunday morning.

Chaquil Dailey, 24, of Stafford County was shot at the Exxon on the 300 block of Warrenton Road in Fredericksburg near I-95 around 12:20 a.m. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

“An event of this magnitude is certainly not an everyday occurrence in Stafford County,” said sheriff’s office spokesperson Amanda Vicinanzo.

This is the third homicide of the year in the county.

Investigators believe they have surveillance photos of the suspect. He is described as a 20 to 30-year-old black man who was wearing a black zip-up sweatshirt, dark pants with black and white shoes. He left in a black Nissan Sentra or Versa.

Vicinanzo said the community is rattled by the murder.

“We will exhaust every tool and resource to protect them,” she said.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (540) 658-4400.
