MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (ABC7) — Montgomery County authorities say a high school security official has been re-arrested for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old student he had been ordered to stay away from after an earlier arrest.
Police say 57-year-old Mark Yantsos of Gaithersburg was rearrested Friday after multiple meetings with the girl, including one in which he allegedly had sex with her.
Yantsos was charged for allegedly having an ongoing sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student back in April.
The school system says they placed him on leave as soon as they learned of the allegations. Police were notified by school officials about the alleged relationship on Monday, April 3.
Police say Yantsos sought out the female student in 2016 “befriending her” and “purchasing her multiple gifts.” Of those gifts, Yantsos allegedly purchased his victim a cellphone in order to communicate with her during and after school hours.
Police say the victim told them that on March 3 around 10 p.m., Yantsos picked her up and drove her to a hotel in Rockville where he engaged in “inappropriate contact with her.”
Copies of inappropriate messages that Yantsos allegedly sent the victim were also provided to police, investigators say.
Yantsos was arrested April 6 at his Rockville home. He was transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with sexual abuse of a minor and fourth-degree sex offense.
Police are urging parents to speak with their children if they attend Richard Montgomery High School. If your child had interactions with Mark Christopher Yantsos, and believe they were victimized, please contact Montgomery County Police’s Special Victims Unit at (240) 773-5400.
