A gas station clerk was killed in a possible attempted robbery at a Herndon shopping center early Wednesday morning.

Fairfax County Police said 40-year-old Resham Bajgain, of Herndon, was killed inside the Sunoco where he worked in the Franklin Farms Shopping Center in the 13300 block of Franklin Farm Road.

Responding to a call around 1:15 a.m., officers arrived within three minutes and spotted a person matching the description of the suspect in the parking lot of the shopping center. They arrested Mohamed Abdullahi, 19, of Herndon, and charged him with murder.

Abdullahi resisted arrest, according to police. Officials said Bajgain suffered blunt force trauma to his upper body.

Court records uncovered by ABC7's Tim Barber show that Abdullahi was found guilty of assault and battery in 2017. In March, he was arrested for public intoxication.

Police said they have surveillance video from the area and believe Abdullahi approached multiple people in the shopping center. Anyone with information on the incident, including a witness's car found near the Sunoco around the time of the murder, are asked to contact police.
