Celebrity chef Mike Isabella files Chapter 7 bankruptcy, most restaurants to close

Report: Restaurant owner Mike Isabella filing for bankruptcy citing #MeToo Movement (ABC7)

An employee tells ABC7 News that Mike Isabella’s Pepita restaurant could close in as little as two weeks.

The Washingtonian reports that it’s one of several restaurants in jeopardy.

“They’re convenient they are nice, they are nice restaurants. it’s going to be a big kind of void here. This whole block is pretty much his,” said customer Emma.

The magazine reports that the celebrity chef has now filed for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September.

The celebrity chef’s empire started to crumble, following a sexual harassment lawsuit filed earlier this year – which he denied but later settled.

“It’s really sad for the workers and the possible closing before the holidaysbut people need to be held accountable,” said Emma.

“Under the present circumstances, I am facing the sad realization that I no longer believe that any restaurant associated with my name can recover from the negative press that has enveloped me for nearly the entirety of 2018,” said Isabella in the Chapter 7 filing.

We reached out to Isabella’s team several times, so far we have not received a response.

His partners, the Pagonis brothers, say they are conducting business as usual.
