WASHINGTON (7News) — On Saturday, one of Senator Rand Paul's staff members was allegedly attacked in D.C., Paul confirmed.
A press release from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) states that officers received a call in the 1300 block of H Street Northeast in reference to a stabbing. Upon arrival, Paul's staff member was there suffering from stab wounds and the suspect, later identified as 42-year-old Glynn Neal of Southeast D.C., had fled the scene.
A witness to the incident said that he and the victim were walking at the listed location when Neal was hiding behind a corner and jumped out to stab the victim with a knife multiple times, MPD confirmed. That witness said he grabbed Neal before Neal ran away.

A second witness saw that Paul's staff member was bleeding from the head and called the police.
On Monday, Paul made a statement regarding the attack and claimed that an arrest has been made.
“This past weekend a member of my staff was brutally attacked in broad daylight in Washington, D.C. I ask you to join Kelley and me in praying for a speedy and complete recovery, and thanking the first responders, hospital staff, and police for their diligent actions. We are relieved to hear the suspect has been arrested. At this time we would ask for privacy so everyone can focus on healing and recovery.”
MPD confirmed that Neal was arrested and was charged with assault with intent to kill. Neal had just been released from prison the day before the stabbing occurred, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
