Police arrest soldier who drove armored military vehicle from Fort Pickett to Richmond


Virginia State Police apprehended a soldier who drove an armored personnel carrier from Fort Pickett in Nottoway County to the City of Richmond Tuesday evening.

According to police, the incident started at 7:50 p.m. when the man drove the military vehicle eastbound on Route 460 to northbound Interstate 95. The vehicle, which was not equipped with any weaponry, was traveling at a maximum speed of 40 miles per hour.

Police pursued the vehicle from Nottoway County into Richmond, where the man stopped the military vehicle at East Broad Street and 11th Street and surrendered to police at around 9:40 p.m.

There were no crashes or injuries reported during this incident.

Police say the man is now in police custody and this incident is currently under investigation with charges pending.
