LAUREL, Md. (ABC7) — Anne Arundel County Police are investigating a fatal early morning car crash in Laurel.
At approximately 2 a.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle car crash off of MD Route 32 East, just east of MD 198. At the scene, officers discovered that a Ford pick-up truck was traveling in the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes of MD 32.
The driver of the Ford pick-up struck a Toyota Camry nearly head-on.
The driver of the Toyota, 33-year-old Raymond McCarter Jr., of Bowie, was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.
The driver of the Ford, 39-year-old Christopher Thomas of Glen Burnie, was not injured.
After a preliminary investigation, the cause of the crash was determined that Thomas was traveling in the wrong direction on a controlled access highway. The use of alcohol was also a contributing factor.
Authorities are continuing to investigate this crash. Officials have charged Thomas with: Driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired and manslaughter by vehicle or vessel.
