Authorities said the investigation is still ongoing after a burning car with a dead body inside was found near a Montgomery County middle school Wednesday morning.

The car was found off the road in the woods around 4:20 a.m. Wednesday morning. The woods' location is directly across from Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School on Wisteria Drive in Germantown.

According to Montgomery County police, the person found inside the car was so badly burned, they have not specified a gender, though sources told ABC7 that the victim appears to be female.

Investigators continue to work to identify them and figure out what happened.

Police have not said if foul play is suspected; however, the Major Crimes Division is working jointly with fire investigators and the Fire and Explosive Investigation unit.

A passerby spotted flames coming out of the woods early Wednesday.

Tire marks were found at the bottom of the hill where the car was parked.

Anyone who was in the area around that time and saw anything is asked to contact police.
