CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (ABC7) — Three people are dead after car crashed into a tree, exploded and caught fire early Tuesday morning in La Plata, according to authorities.
Officials say two of the victims genders and ages are not identifiable at this time.
The Charles County Sheriff's offices says that a Mercedes was heading southbound on Rosehill Road in the area of Hawthorne Road at around 12:54 a.m. when the driver lost control and hit the tree. Officials say a person in the area was able to pull the driver, 28-year-old Eric Lamont Moss, of La Plata, from the wreckage before the explosion.
Moss was flown to Medstar Hospital but died from his injuries, authorities say.
The sheriff's office says the two other people were found in the Mercedes after firefighters put out the car fire.
Investigators say they are working to identify the two victims and determine what caused Moss to lose control of the car.
