Officials: 2 pedestrians struck, killed by train in Germantown


Two pedestrians are dead after they were struck by a CSX train in Germantown Wednesday night, according to authorities in Montgomery County.

The incident happened on the CSX train tracks at Waring Station Road near Peach Crest Drive and Silver Gate Way at around 8:28 p.m.

CSX train traffic has been shut down at this time.

Montgomery County Police are at the scene conducting a death investigation.

CSX released the following statement in relation to the incident:

"Just before 8:30 pm this evening, a CSX train struck two pedestrians on the railroad tracks in the area of Waring Station Road in Gaithersburg, MD. CSX personnel are cooperating with the Montgomery County Police Department, who are investigating the incident. CSX appreciates the swift response by local emergency personnel and extends its thoughts to those impacted by this tragic event."
