Patients, employees ask agency to stop or delay closing of Providence Hospital’s ER

The emergency room at Providence Hospital will close on Dec. 14.

Patients and employees of the hospital in Northeast DC came to DC’s hospital regulation agency Friday asking that they stop or at least delay the plan to close the emergency room and other acute care functions of the hospital.

Even the president of nearby MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Dr. Gregory Argyros testified Friday.

"I asked for the emergency department to be maintained open through June 30 of 2019," Argyros said.

Correction: We previously called Dr. Gregory Argyros the CEO, instead of president, of nearby MedStar Washington Hospital Center. We apologize for the error.
