Officials: 75 firefighters battle fire, heavy smoke coming from Md. restaurant roof

A fire broke out Thursday morning at the Manna restaurant in Takoma Park, according to Pete Piringer, a spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.

Fire officials reported seeing heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof as they arrived on the scene in the 8600 block of Flower Avenue around 5 a.m.

There have been no reports of injuries at this time. Damage is estimated at about $350,000.

Roads closures were put into place on Flower Avenue at Piney Branch Road following the fire.

As an alternative route, take Sligo Creek Parkway.


The cause of the fire is has not been determined, but it is believed to be accidental, starting near a heat system, Piringer says.
