ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) — Montgomery County officials say a person was killed after a tent caught fire at an apparent makeshift homeless camp in Rockville.
The Washington Post reports the fire happened early Thursday.
County fire department spokesman Pete Piringer says authorities received a 911 call from a convenience store about a structure fire near auto warehouses.
Officials say arriving firefighters found the tent fully engulfed in flames along with several abandoned vehicles at what appeared to be a homeless encampment.
One person was found dead where the tent caught fire. Officials haven't positively identified the victim.
Piringer says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
