For crews with GAC Services, freezing temperatures are heating up business.

“Needless to say, there’s a lot of residents out there that need our help that their systems are not able to keep them comfortable,” said Tony Petrolle, President of GAC Services.

The company, based in Gaithersburg, Maryland, spent much of the day on Wednesday answering service calls.

“Super busy,” an employee said of what it’s been like.

Petrolle says in frigid temperatures, there are some preventative measures that homeowners can take.

“First and foremost, change you air filter,” he said. “Even if it’s only a couple of weeks old, when it’s this cold, you really want to let your system breathe.”

He also suggests making sure you don’t have too many vents in the home closed, maintaining the system throughout the year, and sealing up any areas in the home where cold air might be seeping in.

“That’s the biggest challenge for us is heating that cold, cold air as it leaks in,” Petrolle said.

For crews, the frigid temperatures, for now, means a packed schedule.
