A man is dead after their car crashed into a stone fence and caught on fire in Southeast D.C. Tuesday.

Witnesses say the car struck the fence in the 4200 block of Alabama Avenue some time before 2:30 a.m. and started burning with the driver trapped inside.

One of the witnesses, an Uber driver, says he called D.C. Police who arrived on the scene and pulled the driver from the car and tried to revive the person with CPR.

These attempts were unsuccessful and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 4200 block of Alabama Avenue is currently closed as police investigate the accident.
