On Monday night, the stars of the new movie ‘Loving’ walked the red carpet at the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Invited guests joined them for a private screening inside the Oprah Winfrey Theater.

The movie is based on the Supreme Court Case Loving vs. Virginia. On June 12, 1967, the case established that Virginia no longer had the right to prohibit interracial marriages. In the movie, Richard Loving is played by actor Joel Edgerton and Mildred Loving is played by Ruth Negga.

"What was very exciting and what was very resounding throughout the whole process was that we knew that we were apart of something very special,” said Negga.

"I think the very final scene for us, was one of my most difficult scenes for two reasons. The emotional charge, the relief of...celebrating the court case...the Supreme Court ruling in the press conference, because it's an emotional scene,” said Edgerton.

The movie hits theaters on Nov. 4.
