A 49-year-old man whose home was searched in connection with the killing of Winchester Star reporter Sarah Greenhalgh was arrested on a charge unrelated to the homicide, according to InsideNova.
Prince William County Police officials confirmed to ABC 7 that officers arrested John Sheldon Kearns of Gainesville on July 19 on an alleged probation violation.
He is being held without bond and has an Aug. 6 court date.
Kearns’ residence was searched on July 9 in connection with Greenhalgh’s slaying.
Lt. James Hartman with the Fauquier County Sheriff's office says he has never named Kearns as a person of interest in the murder case.
The 48-year-old reporter was found dead in her Upperville home Monday after an off-duty firefighter saw smoke coming from the cinderblock home and called 911. Greenhalgh had rented the home on a farm about 60 miles west of Washington, D.C., for about a year and lived alone.
