Inmates artwork to be displayed in a new exhibit

Off the Grid: an exhibit of art by Northern Virginia inmates is on display from July 12-Aug 31 at the Torpedo Factory.

A new exhibit opens at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandra, VA on Thursday. However, none of the artists behind the drawings will be at the exhibit because they are behind bars.

The exhibit is called Off the Grid: Creating Change Through Art Instruction & Inspiration which features artwork created by Northern Virginia inmates.

Volunteer instructor, Kelli Schollard-Sincock, is helping. According to the Torpedo Factor, the students in Ms. Kelli’s classes range in age, background, and experience, most having never drawn before.

Out of respect of privacy for the students, names are simplified to their initials.
