WASHINGTON (ABC7) — A special needs pot-bellied pig was found abandoned in D.C. Thursday, the Humane Rescue Alliance reported.
After the pig, named Roxanne von Truffle, was brought to the Humane Rescue Alliance's New York Avenue location, a medical team discovered she had a "serious medical condition that will need to be monitored throughout her life." The Humane Rescue Alliance did not say what the condition was but stated it was something the pig was born with.
"Roxanne von Truffle came to the Humane Rescue Alliance when Animal Control Officers were called about an abandoned pot bellied pig. That is a call we don't get every day!" the Humane Rescue Alliance stated in a Facebook post.
Roxanne von Truffle will be taken to PIGS Animal Sanctuary in West Virginia where she will receive special care for her condition. For the time being, she will be taken care of at a foster home.
"She even goes on little adventures wearing a harness and leash! Here she is learning how to 'root.' Bits of baked sweet potato are buried in a bin full of corks, teaching her to rummage around for her food," the Humane Rescue Alliance also stated in the Facebook post.
Owning a pig in D.C. is illegal, according to the Humane Rescue Alliance.
