Human remains discovered in Rockville by man walking his dog
ROCKVILLE, Md. (ABC7) —
A startling discovery near a well-traveled road. Skeletal remains just steps away from where Rockville residents jog and walk their dogs daily.
One of those residents says his dogs got away from him Tuesday afternoon and ran into a woodline chasing deer. That's when Guy Reed says he stumbled upon a skull and scattered bones.
"I haven't walked back in that area yet," Reed said. Thursday, police crime scene tape still marking where the bones were found.
Reed says he was so stunned that he ran out of the woods along Shady Grove Road and Procera Drive.
When the police arrived he was not able to find the remains immediately. He said it was black as night, but eventually he directed officers back to the hidden site.
"There were some more remains," Reed said. "I was telling the officer there's another big bone over here and he's telling me don't move."
It was now a crime scene. Investigators haven't ruled anything out, but at this point are calling this an undetermined death.
Detectives do have a few key clues that could help including: a blue sweatshirt with the words "Quebecor Printing (USA) Corp, a San Antonio Spurs baseball cap, and blue and white Asics sneakers.
Police say it is not clear how long the remains were at the location.
"We just don't know," Rick Goodale said with Montgomery County Police Department. "We're hoping we can get some of that information from the medical examiner's office."
Police say anyone with information on this investigation can call 240-773-5070. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
