A house fire in Columbia caused part of a home to collapse Tuesday night, leaving seven people displaced, according to authorities.

The Howard County Fire Department says they were called to a "heavy fire" at a home in the 7400 block of Sandalfoot Way at around 9 p.m.

Fire officials say the fire caused the garage to collapse but that the seven people who live in the house all got out safely.

The fire was put out and the Office of the Fire Marshal says it is investigating the cause of the fire.

The displaced residents are being helped by family and friends, officials say.
