Grief counselors at Fairfax County elementary school after 9-year-old student's death

Students at Franconia Elementary School will be greeted by grief counselors Monday morning after their 9-year-old classmate died when he got caught between a motorized room partition and wall at the school Friday.

Balloons and flowers are adorn the school in memory of third grader Wesley Lipicky.

The accident occurred just before 5 p.m. on Friday during the after-school childcare program. Police said Lipicky and a teacher simultaneously pressed the button to open the motorized room partition that splits the gymnasium in half. Lipicky was caught between the divider and a wall and suffered β€œtraumatic head injuries.”

Partition walls have been used for decades inside schools all around the country.

The death has been deemed accidental and no charges will be filed.
